The Company – Marketing Operations and CRM Manager

Some companies have a perfectly set-up and maintained CRM. Other companies – most of them – have 14,000 contacts, six versions of the same company, an opportunity last updated in February and a sales pipeline everyone quietly suspects is lying to them. This growing FinTech business would very much like to be in the first group.

They’re looking for a Marketing Operations and CRM Manager to sit at the heart of their commercial operation, joining the dots between Marketing, Sales, Finance and the numbers that tell everyone whether any of it is actually working.

It’s a hands-on role with plenty of ownership. No team to hide behind. No passing HubSpot problems to somebody else. You’ll be the person who understands how everything fits together, who can spot when it doesn’t and who makes it better.

The Role – Marketing Operations and CRM Manager

HubSpot will be a big part of your world. You’ll own the CRM, keep the data clean and make sure workflows, automation and pipeline stages are helping people rather than creating seventeen extra clicks and an unhealthy relationship with spreadsheets.

But this isn’t a glorified CRM administrator role -you’ll work across the entire commercial journey, from the moment someone enters the funnel through to conversion, renewal, expansion and churn. You’ll help Marketing understand what turns into revenue, help Sales see what needs attention and give the leadership team a much clearer picture of what is coming down the track.

There’s plenty of data involved, but the clever bit isn’t producing more of it; it’s knowing what matters and making sure the focus is on quality rather than quantity. You’ll build dashboards, analyse pipeline performance, forecast revenue and turn a collection of numbers into useful commercial recommendations that normal human beings can understand and act upon.

Key Responsibilities – Marketing Operations and CRM Manager

  • Own HubSpot and make sure it remains clean, organised and useful rather than gradually becoming an expensive digital cupboard under the stairs.
  • Improve workflows, automation and pipeline stages to remove bottlenecks and get leads into the right hands faster.
  • Build dashboards covering pipeline health, conversion, win rates, deal velocity and wider commercial performance.
  • Take ownership of CRM data quality and introduce sensible processes to keep it accurate.
  • Connect the dots between Marketing and Sales to provide visibility from acquisition through to renewal, expansion and churn.
  • Produce quarterly revenue forecasts using historical performance, current pipeline and commercial trends.
  • Run regular pipeline reviews, spot stalled opportunities and make sure deals haven’t been sitting at “90% likely” since the clocks changed.
  • Turn raw data into useful recommendations for the CEO and leadership team.
  • Support commercial planning around accounts, capacity, conversion and productivity.
  • Help new salespeople get to grips with HubSpot, processes and tools without handing them a 73-page manual and wishing them luck.

About You – Marketing Operations and CRM Manager

You’ll probably have around three to five years’ experience in Marketing Operations, CRM, Revenue Operations, Sales Operations or somewhere in the increasingly blurry territory between them with a unique job title.

Experience within FinTech, SaaS or another technology-led business would be particularly useful. You’ll know HubSpot properly. Not “I once built an email in it” properly. You’ll be comfortable with CRM structure, workflows, automation, dashboards, reporting and data quality and you’ll know how to make the system work for the people using it. You’ll also be good with numbers. Excel won’t frighten you and you’ll be able to take a horrible-looking table of raw data and find the useful bit hiding inside it.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who likes making things work better. Someone who notices the wonky process, the unreliable data or the opportunity that’s been sitting untouched for three weeks and can’t quite leave it alone. If you enjoy the point where marketing, CRM, sales, data and commercial strategy all bump into each other, this should give you plenty to get stuck into.

The role is largely remote, yet will involve a day a week on-site in Berkshire as well as some time in London. As a result, you’ll need to be within a reasonable distance of both. Both the long and the short answers to ‘would they look at doing fully-remote for me?’ are a resounding “no”!
